He was a benign elderly man, he liked watching kids play hide and seek around the debris of the buildings that had been wrecked after the massive earthquake.

He had a monotonous life, he lived alone in the biggest dwelling in the whole village. It was atop the only hill in the territory. The view was breathtaking over there; you could see all of the endless golden sunflower fields that lay all across the horizon. He wasn't rich at all, he had built the dwelling all by himself when he and his beloved wife were newly married. Every time he took a gander at the smiling sunflowers he had flashbacks of the past. "Good times..." he would say to himself with a deep sigh.

Everyday he woke up at 7 and prepare himself a fancy breakfast, just like the way wife used to. After breakfast, after tending the garden and talking to the plants one by one, he would ly on his green mattress while listening to the same song over and over again until he fell asleep. When he woke up he would have lunch and head to coffee house right away.

The coffee house was his happy place. It was the only place where he could think anything different from his bitter past. He always sat at the very back on the right corner of the patio. It was the only table for one. He could see the only field that had not been planted with sunflowers. The kids of the village played football over there after school. They rushed over to the empty dusty field just as the school bell rang. It was a petite field and only 12 kids could fit there at once.

Even though he was not, he looked as if he was century old. He wasn't quite healthy; his weak body moved apathetically due to rheumatism. His hands shaked all the time, they had gotten worse for the past few years. Especially, after one particular event. It was the wrinkles on this face was what gave his misery away.

After taking his regular seat at the coffee house, he would order tea and start smoking. He knew it didn't do him any good but smoking was his only anti-depressant. He didn't want to live anyway. When he was smoking, nobody could see his face from the black smoke that surrounded his head. His face was shielded by the thick smoke but it was evident that he had bloodshot, watery eyes...
